The Black Horse

In the cold midwinter time there are moments which have to be captured. Horses, cows, deer and other animals are not quite my main subject. I rarely have the patience to wait for all the wild animals, but I do not hesitate if the animal is just standing there. Some may disagree, but this is nature at its best, it is black and it is white, the light is perfect, the scene is grand. Of course, the photograph was initially a colour photograph, but at the time of the shooting, I was immediately thinking in black and white …

I know too well that horses in direct sunlight is already captured by thousands, if not millions, of photographers around the world. However, I have not seen many photographs with a black horse against a beautifully chaotic and snowy white background. The challenge is to capture both the bright white and the dark black shadows.
